2 injured in Motorcycle accident

On 10/05/07 at 2:37 PM the New Hartford Police were called to a motorcycle accident on State Route 840 at the Route 12 South Exit Ramp.  According to Patrolman Matthew Sica, Paul V. Profeta, 63 of West Orange New Jersey was operating a 1992 Harley Davidson Motorcycle east bound on Route 840 with Joanne Malino, 42 of New York City as a passenger.  Profeta was attempting to merge onto the Route 12 south ramp when he struck some gravel in the road causing him to loose control.  The Motorcycle then slid onto its side ejecting both passengers. 

Profeta and Malino were treated at the scene by the Utica Fire Department and Edwards Ambulance.  Both were then transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for treatment.  Profeta was treated for a minor injuries but Malino has since been transferred to SUNY Up State in Syracuse in Critical Condition with a head injury. 

Both riders were wearing their helmets at the time of the crash.  There have been no tickets issued and the accident remains under investigation.
