Suspect in Corr Murder Extradited to New Jersey

New Hartford Police Chief Raymond Philo today confirmed that Robert Ward, age 28, of Philadelphia, a suspect in the February 27, 2006 robbery of the Lennon’s W.B. Wilcox Jewelry Store which resulted in the death of Officer Joseph Corr, has been extradited from Pennsylvania to New Jersey relating to a jewelry store robbery in Freehold on August 26, 2005.  Ward was arrested on March 1, 2006 in Philadelphia on local charges, and has since been held in the Philadelphia City Jail.

According to Chief Philo, “this is significant to our case in New Hartford because Ward has to be prosecuted in New Jersey before he can be brought back to Oneida County to face charges.”  Ward was indicted by an Oneida County Grand Jury, along with Marion Pegese, age 33 and John Healy, age 47, in relation to their participation in the Lennon’s W.B. Wilcox Jewelry Store Robbery.

New Hartford Police Officer Joseph Corr was shot and killed after he pursued the robbery suspects on the evening of February 27, 2006.  Police investigators indicate that Corr was shot by Walter Richardson of Philadelphia; another participant in the robbery.  Richardson was killed in Chester City, PA on the evening of February 28, 2006 after he was located by Police and refused to surrender.  Richardson exited the house he was in, and shot at police, who returned fire, killing him.

Both Ward and Pegese face charges of Robbery and Murder for their participation in the Lennon’s robbery and the subsequent murder of Officer Corr.
