Woman Suffers Serious Injuries in New Hartford Accident

New Hartford Police responded to a fight in progress involving weapons on Wednesday evening on Elm St. in Chadwicks.  The fight resulted in two men being charged with several criminal charges including burglary and felony assault.

According to Officer J.D. Gehringer the fight was reported at approximately 6:45 pm on Wednesday evening at a residence near the Donovan Memorial Park on Elm St.  The fight was reported to be between two men and involving baseball bats.  Upon arrival police encountered the two men, Edward A. Rossi, age 23 of Amsterdam NY and William D. Gonzalez, age 28 of Utica, engaged in a fight in the middle of the roadway.  The parties were separated by police upon arrival.

The incident began when Gonzalez came to the residence of his ex-girlfriend to confront her current boyfriend, Rossi.  Gonzalez entered the residence without any permission and confronted Rossi who was upstairs in the residence.  After a brief struggle inside the residence, the two began to fight outside the residence and in the middle of the street.  During the fight, Rossi went to his vehicle, and grabbed a home made nightstick from the trunk, and struck Gonzalez twice causing an injury to the rear of Gonzalez’s head.  Rossi then pulled an air pistol from the trunk of this vehicle and displayed it towards Gonzalez.  The nightstick and air pistol were both recovered from inside of Rossi’s vehicle.  Both Rossi and Gonzalez were taken into custody by police at the scene.  Gonzalez was charged with Burglary 2nd, a felony, and Disorderly Conduct.  Rossi was charged with Assault 2nd, a felony, along with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th, Menacing 3rd both misdemeanors, and Disorderly Conduct.  Both men were arraigned in New Hartford town court and sent to Oneida County Jail in lieu of bail.  Both men are scheduled to return to court later this month.
