New Hartford Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash                                                  

A New Hartford man is being treated for multiple injuries at SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse following a motorcycle crash on Route 8 in New Hartford.

The accident occurred Monday morning at 11:21 am in the North-bound lane of Route 8 near the Genesee Street exit. Jonathan M. Waterman, age 19 was operating his motorcycle when it went out of control on the approach to a curve.  The motorcycle overturned onto it’s side and slid about 160 feet before striking a guide rail. After striking the guide rail the motorcycle slid about 530 feet to a stop blocking one lane of the highway. Waterman’s injuries resulted from him sliding and tumbling on the pavement after being separated from the motorcycle.

Firefighters from the New Hartford Fire Department responded to the scene provide Waterman with aid for his injuries before being transported St. Elizabeth Medical center in Utica. After being stabilized there, Waterman was transferred to Syracuse for additional treatment. Waterman’s injuries included a broken ankle, as well as injuries to his hip, back, arms, hands and other injuries.

The accident was investigated by Sgt. Robert Philo who credits Waterman’s use of a well-made, DOT-approved helmet that eliminated serious injuries to his head, neck and face.

Waterman was ticketed for operating a motorcycle without a proper license. The accident remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.
