Central Dispatch Center Closes
Formerly One of Four Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) in Oneida County Central Disptach, created in August of 1991, was formally closed after September 30th, 2010 ending 19 years of dedicated service to the residents and visitors of the Town of New Hartford and the Villages of both New York Mills and New Hartford.
The New Hartford Central Dispatch Center operated on 8 hour shifts, 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Formerly located within the Public Safety Building on Kellogg Road, the Center was consolidated with Oneida County's 911 Center in 2010.
Central had 6 full-time dispatchers, 10 part-time and 1 Supervisor. In addition to the Town Agencies they dispatched for, they contracted with the Villages of Whitesboro and Yorkville to provide dispatching for their fire departments. Those contracts ended July 2010. The town also enacted a shared services agreement with the Town of Kirkland for Animal Control effectively doubling the territory Central Dispatch answed for in animal cases. Over 60,000 calls for service were handled annually. Better than 80% of those calls were for “non-emergency” calls. In fact, only approximately 4,000 calls or 6.7% of the calls received came in on 911 lines. Press Release on National Public Safety
