 WOMAN SUCCUMBS TO ACCIDENT INJURIES                                                  

A 3-car collision that occurred on Route 5 in the Town of New Hartford on May 8th has claimed the life of a second person.

Sgt. Robert Philo is reporting that Eleanor Gouse, age 88 of Yorkville died on Sunday, May 20th at University Hospital in Syracuse from multiple injuries sustained in the collision. The collision also claimed the life of John M. Klein, age 68 of Cassville, who died shortly after the accident. Gouse was a front seat passenger in a mini van being operated by Shirley O’Reilly of Utica.   The collision occurred after O’Reilly’s mini van struck the rear of a car operated by Laurie A. Dougherty, age 46 of New Hartford. That impact caused the O’Reilly vehicle to cross the center of the highway colliding head-on with Klein’s vehicle, also a mini van. O’Reilly, Gouse and Klein all had to be extricated from their vehicles by New Hartford and Clark Mills Firefighters who had to use hydraulic tools to free them from the wreckage. O’Reilly was airlifted from the scene and flown to University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment of her injuries. Two other minor injuries to vehicle occupants were also reported

New Hartford Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
