Sauquoit Man Charged With Grand Larceny

The New Hartford Police Department arrested a 19-year-old Sauquoit man on Grand Larceny charges Wednesday evening, after he was found to be stealing from Home Depot on French Rd. where he was employed.

According to Patrolman J.D. Gehringer, Michael Welch, age 19, of Paris Hill Rd. in Sauquoit was charged with Grand Larceny 4th, a class E felony, and several counts of Falsifying Business Records 1st degree, all class E felonies after he was found to be stealing store merchandise over the past four months.  An investigation into the thefts showed that Welch, who was employed as a cashier at Home Depot had been voiding purchases on items bought at the store by a family member, or would just pass the merchandise along without taking payment.  Police recovered a total of approximately $1,300 worth of store merchandise from Welch’s residence.  Welch was released on an appearance ticket and will answer the charges later next month in New Hartford Town Court.
