Truck vs. Building Motor Vehicle Crash

On January 1, 2009 at about 2:45 a.m., the New Hartford Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle into a building at the Sunoco A-Plus gas station located on Seneca Turnpike.

The incident occurred when a front seat passenger within a 2002 GMC pick up truck operated by Edward F. Constantine, age 18, of Utica, moved to the center to allow a third passenger to enter the vehicle.  In doing so, the center passenger accidentally depressed the vehicle’s accelerator causing it to accelerate uncontrollably and strike the building.  Prior to this, the vehicle was in drive, with the operator’s foot on the brake.  The vehicle crashed through two large, full length, glass windows located at the front of the building and came to rest completely inside.  The crash caused extensive interior and exterior damage to the building. 

There were no patrons or employees near the area of the crash and none of the occupants of the vehicle were injured.  No tickets have been issued and the crash is still under investigation.
