Utica Man Twice in One Week at Hannaford's
For the second time in one week the New Hartford Police have arrested John J. Makohen 43 of Utica for shoplifting at the Commercial Drive, New Hartford, Hannafords Store. Last week on 12/28/09 Makohen was observed stealing a television, the loss prevention officer on duty stopped him as he exited the store and contacted the police who arrested Makohen. While being searched incident to this arrest Makohen was found to unlawfully possess a Hypodermic Syringe. Makohen was later released on an appearance ticket and was due to appear in The Town of New Hartford Court during January on charges of Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.
On January 4th, 2010, at approx. 6:00 in the morning Makohen was observed by the store loss prevention officer stealing again. This time Makohen concealed 28 packages of various Tylenol products having a total value of over $300.00. Makohen then exited the store without paying for them merchandise that he concealed. Makohen was apprehended as he exited the store. Makohen was then arrested by police who arrived at Hannafords.
This time Makohen was transported to The New Hartford Police Department, where he was processed on a petit larceny charge, which is a misdemeanor. Makohen was then remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $750 cash bail. He will answer both larceny charges during January in the Town of New Hartford Court.
