GUN REPORT A HOAXUTICA MAN ARRESTED FOR LYING TO POLICE - TWICE
At least five police agencies converged on the Burrstone Road area of New Hartford Tuesday evening in response to a 9-1-1 call reporting that a man was seen running with a baby in one arm while displaying a pistol in his other hand.
The call was made Tuesday at about 9:15 p.m. from a maintenance worker at the Slocum-Dickson Medical facility. The caller reported that a male was running from the facility with a young child in one arm and a pistol in his other hand while a female chased after them yelling for the male to return the baby to her. Numerous police officers and security officers from nearby Utica College and Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare spent over an hour searching the area to include the interior of Notre Dame High School where an athletic event was being held.
Police were very concerned that the health and welfare of a small child was endangered and continued to investigate the report throughout the night and into Wednesday afternoon. New Hartford Patrolman Jason Freiberger was assigned to follow leads and attempt to reconstruct the events as they were reported to police. Freiberger’s investigation involved a secondary interview of the original caller. When confronted with facts that could not be supported by the reconstruction of the event the caller admitted to making up the report. He gave no motive for making the false report. He was subsequently arrested. While being processed relative to the arrest, it was determined that he gave a false name to police.
Anthony Culver, age 32 of West Street Utica was charged as follows:
All counts are misdemeanors.
Coleman was arraigned in New Hartford Court before Town Justice VanSlyke then committed to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bail. Culver is scheduled to reappear in court January 21 for further court action. Contact: Sgt. Robert Philo, 315/733-6666
