Rome Woman Jailed following Theft, Foot Chase

A 33 year old Rome woman was jailed Wednesday after she was arrested for Grand Larceny.

At about 5:50 pm Wednesday, New Hartford police were called to the Hannaford Super Market on Commercial Drive after a store patron reported that her purse had been stolen from her shopping cart. The patron located her purse in the possession of Jessica C. Wilder. The patron called to store employees for help. Store employees then chased after Wilder who had fled the store. While store employees chased after Wilder the patron called police.

Patrolman Ronald Fontaine was on routine patrol on Commercial Drive at the time of the incident. Fontaine arrived on the scene in a matter of moments and was able to take Wilder into custody as she was fleeing from store employees. Wilder was taken into custody within two minutes of the theft occurring. A computer check indicated that Wilder was on parole for a previous conviction of Grand Larceny.

Wilder was charged with Grand Larceny relative to the theft of the purse. She also charged with being a parole violator. Wilder was arraigned in New Hartford Court before Town Justice James VanSlyke who committed Wilder to Oneida County Jail without bail. Further court proceedings will be held in Town Court at a later date.
