Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation leads to DWI Arrest

 

On Saturday March 13th 2010 at around 10:00 pm, the New Hartford Police Department investigated a one-car property damage accident on Grange Hill Road. Through investigation, the operator of the vehicle was identified as Matthew E. Ellis, 25, from Bridgewater.  Ellis stated that he had lost control of his vehicle while traveling west on Grange Hill Road resulting in the vehicle traveling off the westbound shoulder of the roadway and striking a tree causing major front-end damage to the pickup truck.  According to Ptl Jason Freiberger, Ellis had been consuming alcohol prior to the crash within his vehicle.  Ellis sustained an abrasion to his right arm and injuries to his face. Ellis was treated by Edwards Ambulance personal and refused treatment.  Investigation revealed that Ellis had a Bench Warrant out of the City of Utica.

After performing numerous field sobriety tests at the accident scene, Ellis was placed into custody for Driving While Intoxicated.  Ellis was then transported to the New Hartford Police Department where he was processed and released to the custody of Utica Police on traffic tickets returnable to the Town Of New Hartford Court on April 20th 2010 at 1:00 pm.   Along with being charged with Driving While Intoxicated a Misdemeanor, Ellis was also charged 2 counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd degree a Misdemeanor, Consumption of Alcohol within a motor vehicle and moving from lane unsafely, both violations.
