Two Car Crash sends Youth to Hospital
On 05-22-10 at about 9:28 pm the New Hartford Police responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Higby Road and Tilden Avenue in the Town of New Hartford.
Patrolman M. Kowalski states that Nicholas Maldonado, age 16 of Utica, had stopped at the stop sign on Tilden Avenue at Higby Road. Maldonado was operating a 2008 Mazda four door sedan at the time. Maldonado attempted to cross Higby Road, but collided with a 2003 GMC truck, traveling east on Higby Road, operated by Kayla Mierek, age 20 of Frankfort. The force of the impact caused Mierek’s truck to leave the roadway striking a street sign and coming to rest upon the front lawn of a residence.
Maldonado was treated at the scene by members of the New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department and was subsequently transported to St. Luke’s hospital by Edwards’s ambulance for further evaluation. Patrolman Kowalski states that Maldonado was cited for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign and for operating out of class. Mierek was cited for operating on a suspended license. All tickets are returnable to the Town of New Hartford Court on a later date.
