Two Escape Serious Injury Following Crash

The New Hartford Police Department investigated a motor vehicle crash shortly before 530am on Tuesday May 26, 2009, which sent a Chadwicks woman and her son to the hospital.

According to Officer Andrew Allen, Mary A. Hartzog of Oneida St. Chadwicks was operating her vehicle north on Oneida St. when several deer entered the roadway in front of her vehicle. Hartzog attempted to avoid striking the deer by turning her vehicle to the right, which caused her to lose control. The vehicle crossed over the intersection of Oneida St. and Sessions Rd., left the east side of roadway and struck a guide wire to a National Grid power pole. The force of the collision caused severed the power pole. Both Hartzog, and her 7-year-old son were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with complaints of pain. Neither were wearing a seatbelt. Hartzog was issued summons’ for Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Seatbelt and for Transporting an Unrestrained Rear Passenger under the age of 16. She is to answer the summons’ in the Town of New Hartford Court at a later date. The New Hartford Police Department was assisted on scene by Willowvale Fire Company, Edward’s Ambulance and National Grid.
