CLINTON WOMAN INJURED IN ACCIDENT

On Friday June 5, 2009, at 10:42 AM the New Hartford Police investigated a one-car personal injury motor vehicle accident on Seneca Turnpike near McDonalds.  According to Patrolman Matthew Sica, Joan M. Cole, 76, of Clinton was in the drive thru at McDonalds operating a 1996 Mercury when it appears that she had some type of medical emergency in the vehicle.  Cole lost consciousness and her foot struck the accelerator.  The vehicle traveled forward striking the side of McDonalds.  The vehicle continued forward across 5 lanes of traffic on Seneca Turnpike narrowly missing a number of vehicles traveling on the roadway.  The vehicle then jumped the curb and struck a tree, causing moderate damage to the front end. 

Cole was treated at the scene by the New Hartford Fire Department and transported to St Elizabeth’s Hospital by Edwards Ambulance with a complaint of abdominal pain. 

No tickets have been issued and the accident is still under investigation.
