Morning Motor Vehicle Accident sends one Person to Hospital

At 8:00am the New Hartford Police and the New York Mills Fire Department responded to a two car collision on Middle Settlement Road, at the entrance to B.O.C.E.S. 

A subsequent investigation by police revealed that a vehicle, driven by Meghan O’connor, 19, of Whitesboro, collided with a stopped vehicle when she looked away from the roadway to adjust her automobile radio.  The vehicle that was stopped was operated by Catherine Hanretty, 59, of Utica.  Hanretty’s vehicle sustained heavy damage and the air bags were deployed. 

Oconnor sustained a chest injury and was treated at the scene by EMT’s from the New York Mills Fire Department and Edwards Ambulance.  O’Connor was then transported to St. Lukes Hospital for further treatment.   O’Connor was ticketed for following too closely.  The collision caused one lane of Middle Settlement Road to be closed for approximately 20 minutes while the scene was cleared of debris and the vehicles towed.
