Utica Woman Injured in New Hartford Crash  

The New Hartford Police Department investigated a motor vehicle accident Friday afternoon on Seneca Turnpike in front of Jay K Lumber that resulted in a Utica woman suffering minor injuries. 

According to Officer J.D. Gehringer, the accident occurred around 5:43 pm when a vehicle being operated by Richard Mergenthaler, age 17, of Herkimer was attempting to make a left turn from the center turning lane of Seneca Turnpike into the Big Apple Music parking lot.  Mergaenthaler’s vehicle entered into the path of a westbound vehicle being operated by William Forbes Jr, age 32, of West Winfield.  The passenger in Forbes’ vehicle, Claudia Knox, age 40, of Utica complained of neck, chest, and arm pain was treated at a local hospital for her injuries.  No other injuries were reported to police.  Mergenthaler was issued a ticket for Failure to Yield Right of Way Left Turn and will answer the charge next month in New Hartford town court. 

The New Hartford Fire Department and Edwards Ambulance assisted New Hartford police at the scene.
