Town of New Hartford NEW YORK

The New Hartford Police are investigating a report of fraudulent gift cards that are being sold on the street.  Reportedly, the individuals conducting this scam have approached unsuspecting citizens outside of local businesses, inquiring if the citizen would like to purchase a gift card for much less than it is reportedly worth.  When the citizen then attempts to use the card after buying it, they find that the card is not worth any money.  The New Hartford Police are currently investigating an instance that occurred involving a Home Depot gift card but warn that gift cards from other businesses may also be involved in this scam.

 

The New Hartford Police Department advises citizens to only obtain a gift card from the store itself and not to purchase any gift cards being sold by a third party.  If an individual who has tried to sell a gift card has contacted you or you have become a victim of this scam please contact Officer Jarod Petrie at the New Hartford Police Department.
