Three Injured in Motor Vehicle Accident

On August 11, 2009 at approximately 3:07 pm Patrolman James Hyatt investigated a two car motor vehicle accident on Genesee Street in the Village of New Hartford that injured three people.  Based on the investigation, it was determined that David Enjem, age 89, attempted to make a left hand turn onto Genesee Street from the Sunset Woods apartment complex.  In attempting this turn, Enjem failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle headed west on Genesee Street operated by Gina Fuco, age 33, residing in Rome.

The impact of the accident trapped David Enjem and his passenger Rose Enjem, age 86, in their vehicle.  The New Hartford Fire Department used hydraulic equipment to extricate the subjects from the vehicle.  David Enjem was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel for injuries to his upper body.  Rose Enjem was treated for injuries to her arm.  Both were transported by Edwards Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.  A 13 year old passenger in the vehicle operated by Fuco was treated at the scene for injuries to her abdomen and pelvis area and transported to St. Lukes Hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Traffic on Genesee Street was rerouted for about 1 hour.  Enjem was issued a traffic summons for failing to yield the right of way while making a left turn and will appear in court at a later date.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Patrolman James Hyatt at 724-7111.
