Rome Woman Facing Several Charges Following Larceny Complaint

The New Hartford Police investigated a larceny complaint that led to a Rome woman facing several charges on Wednesday afternoon.  The incident took place at the Wal Mart in New Hartford. 

According to Officer J.D. Gehringer, police were called to Wal-Mart in Consumer Square for a report of a black male and black female that stole store merchandise and fled the area in a red pickup operated by a white female.  Officer Ronald Fontaine, who was on Commercial Drive spotted the vehicle turning onto Route 840 and was able to stop the vehicle.  The three occupants of the vehicle were detained briefly on the side of the road and through further investigation at Wal Mart it was determined that the black female identified as Janee M. Brown, age 22, of Rome had taken over $1000 dollars in store merchandise.  Brown was taken into custody at the scene of the stop.  While police were attempting to take Brown into custody, Brown became combative with officers and kicked the side of a police car she was being placed in.  Investigation also showed that Brown had initially lied to police about her name and date of birth.  Brown was charged with Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, a Class E Felony, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and False Personation, a Class B, Misdemeanor.  Brown also had a warrant out of Rome City Court, as well as a New York State Parole warrant.  Brown was arraigned in town court and sent to Oneida County Jail without bail.
