SAUQUOIT MAN CHARGED WITH GRAND LARCENY    

The New Hartford Police Department arrested a 37-year-old Sauquoit man on Grand Larceny charges after he was found to be running a money scam while working at Rec-Pools in New Hartford.

According to Patrolman Peter Colburn, Robert Carey, age 37, of 2 Carefree Lane in the Campbell Road trailer park in Sauquoit was charged with Grand Larceny 4th, a class E felony, after he was found to be stealing from a customer while working at Rec-Pools in New Hartford.  Carey scammed the customer by selling them a spa and having the customer transfer money for the payment from Florida, where they were vacationing, into Carey’s personal bank account.  Carey told the customer that sending the money to the account was the only way to pay from Florida.  The incident took place in January 2007, and was reported to the New Hartford P.D. late last week.

Carey was also arrested this past spring for stealing from Rec-Pools.  He was charged for Grand Larceny 4th, and Falsifying Business Records.

Carey was released to the Guilderland Police Department based on an arrest warrant for another scam that he committed in the Town of Guilderland near Albany.  Carey will answer the charges from the New Hartford Police Department later next month in New Hartford Town Court.
