Three Utica men charged with burglary at the Robert Bradley Elementary School

A two month investigation into a burglary at the Robert Bradley Elementary School located on Oxford Road in New Hartford has concluded with the arrests of three Utica residents for Burglary in the third degree, Grand larceny in the third degree and Criminal Mischief in the third degree, all felonies.

New Hartford Sgt. Michael Inserra investigated a report of a burglary at the school in late June that resulted in three subjects being charged for the incident.  Arrested for the crimes of burglary, grand larceny and criminal mischief were David Punko, age 17, residing on Oak Street; Yuriy N. Lashchuk, age 17, residing on Kemble Street; and a 15 year old male residing on Irving Road.

According to the Police, the three men climbed over a construction site fence behind the Bradley Elementary School and then gained access to the building.  Once in the building the three forcibly entered five locked classrooms by breaking glass windows in the doors and reaching inside the door to unlock it.  The men then stole computer equipment from each room valued at over $5,000.00.  Considerable damage was done to the doors of the classrooms.  Some of the stolen property was recovered during the course of the investigation.

David Punko and Yuriy Lashchuk were arraigned in the New Hartford Village Court by Judge VanSlyke and will reappear in Court at a later time.  The 15-year-old youth was referred to the Oneida County Family Court to answer the same charges.

The investigation is continuing and may result in additional charges.

Contact Sgt. Michael Inserra at 315-724-7111 with any inquiries.
