Whitesboro Woman Charged For Attempting to Steal Fishing Lures

The New Hartford Police Department arrested a Whitesboro woman Thursday afternoon after she attempted to steal over $700 dollars in fishing lures from Gander Mountain in New Hartford.

According to Officer J.D. Gehringer, New Hartford Police were called to Gander Mountain after store employees noticed a white female, later identified as Amy M. Croman, age 33, of Linwood Place in Whitesboro, in the fishing lure area of the store acting peculiar.  Croman had spent an unusually long time in the lure section of the store and could be seen bending down often.  Croman then purchased some merchandise from the store and while exiting, store personnel attempted to stop Croman.  Croman then dropped her purse in the store and ran to a vehicle in the parking lot.  The vehicle fled the lot before Croman could get in the vehicle.  Store employees had called police and reported that Croman was on foot running toward the UPS building on Ellinwood Drive in the Orchard Plaza.  Police found Croman on foot near UPS and she was taken into custody. 

Croman was charged with Attempted Petit Larceny, and Criminal Possession of an Anti-Security Item after Croman’s purse was found to have been lined with aluminum foil to block the security sensors in the store.  Both charges are Class B Misdemeanors.  Croman was processed at NHPD and issued an appearance ticket for town court later this month.
