Two Suffer Minor Injuries Following Car Crash
On October 11, 2009, shortly after 1030am, the New Hartford Police Department responded to a two-car motor vehicle crash on Oxford Rd. near Sherman St. that left both operators injured.
According to Patrolman Andrew Allen, Betty C. Ferraro, 72 of Rome was operating her vehicle north on Oxford Rd. As she approached the intersection of Oxford Rd. and Sherman St., Ferraro attempted to apply her brakes in order to stop for the red traffic signal located at the intersection. Ferraro inadvertently applied the accelerator, which caused her vehicle to strike the rear of a vehicle being operated by Lin Yang, 65 of New Hartford. Yang was stopped at traffic at the traffic signal. Ferraro’s vehicle ricocheted off of Yang’s vehicle and struck a street sign before coming to rest against a utility pole. Yang’s vehicle was forced into the curbing located on the east side of Oxford Rd. Both Ferraro and Yang were transported to local Hospitals for evaluation regarding dizziness and minor pain. The investigation is continuing. The New Hartford Police Department was assisted on scene by the New Hartford Fire Department and Edward’s Ambulance.
