Rome Firm to Help Police Fight Cyber Crime
Griffiss-based Assured Information Security, Inc. has been awarded $262,000 from the National Institute of Justice to develop a computer system that features automated analysis of data. The National Institute of Justice is the research and developement arm of the U.S. Department of Justice.
The “Enhanced Metadata Analysis Software” is seen as a tool for law enforcement agencies in investigating cyber crime. AIS, 245 Hill Road in the Griffiss Business Park, is working with the New Hartford Police Department on the development of this software. According to New Hartford Police Chief Raymond Philo, “the development of this software will assist Law Enforcement agencies in determining the source of data generated by cyber-criminals. As we have a large retail and business community here in New Hartford, as well as the largest population of any town in Oneida County, we are particularly susceptible to cyber crime”.
Assured Information Security, Inc. has about 90 employees at Grifiss, said AIS Vice President Glenn T. Welsh. The software project is not expected to add to this number. The firm, founded in 2001, has its roots in the nearby Air Force Research Laboratory and still works closely with lab and other government customers. A cornerstone of their business has been inventing and developing custom software to solve “cyber challenges” said Welsh.
