CAR COLLIDES WITH SCHOOL BUS STUDENTS UNINJURED IN NEW HARTFORD WRECK
No injuries were reported Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. after a car and a New York Mills school bus collided on Seneca Turnpike in front of Sangertown Square Mall.
The school bus was traveling westbound on Seneca Turnpike and was being driven by Richard W. Thomas, age 65 of New Hartford. The school bus entered into the intersection with the Sangertown Square mall when an eastbound sedan that was being driven by Virginia A. Dotzler, age 63 of Vernon Center made a left turn across the path of the school bus. Dotzler was intending to turn from Seneca Turnpike into the entrance of Sangertown Square.
Dotzler’s vehicle sustained heavy right side damage and had to be towed from the scene. The school bus sustained minor front end damage and was taken out of service pending repairs and inspection by the state Dept. of Transportation.
At the time of the collision the school bus was carrying 5 students ranging between 15 and 20 years of age. None of the students reported injuries. As a precaution, school officials transferred the students to another school bus then transported them for medical assessment by the school nurse.
Dotzler was issued summonses for failing to yield the right of way and for driving an uninsured motor vehicle. She is scheduled to answer the charges in new Hartford Town Court on December 29th.
The accident was investigated by Sgt. R.S. Philo
