December 07 , 2009

Man arrested for Driving While Intoxicated for the second time in less than one week.

On Wednesday December 2nd, 2009 at 6:00pm The New Hartford Police Dept. arrested Scott Hoffman, 39, of Rome for Driving While Intoxicated after the vehicle he lost control of his vehicle on State Rt. 840, and struck a guardrail.

On December 7th, 2009 Hoffman was stopped while operating his vehicle in The St. Lukes Hospital Parking Lot on Champlain Ave. in  New Hartford.   New Hartford Police Officer, Patrolman Ronald Fontaine, who was assigned to The St. Lukes Hospital Detail, observed Hoffman operating his 1995 Ford Explorer Sport Utility Vehicle in the Hospital parking lot.  Hoffman was then observed exiting his vehicle at which time he began to stumble and nearly fell while closing the vehicle’s door.  Hoffman was then observed walking towards the emergency dept. waiting room. Patrolman Ronald Fontaine initiated a conversation with Hoffman regarding his condition.  During this it appeared that Hoffman was impaired.  Hoffman was field tested in the parking lot and then arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

A search of Hoffman’s vehicle revealed an open container of beer in the center console.

Hoffman will be arraigned and answer this second DWI charge in The Town of New Hartford Court at a later date.  In 2000, Hoffman served a two year state prison sentence for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a serious personal injury accident after being arrested in the Town of Kirkland, N.Y.

Questions pertaining to this release can be directed to Officer Ronald Fontaine at 315-724-7111.
