Ilion woman Charged With Using Stolen Prescriptions 

     The New Hartford Police Department arrested an Ilion woman on December 10 for allegedly using stolen prescriptions in order to obtain a narcotic drug.

     Arrested was Melanie M. Bennett, age 31, of Ilion.  Bennett was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.   According to Officer Christopher J. Burns, Bennett’s arrest is the result of an investigation into a complaint filed by a New Hartford physician which stated that an anonymous caller advised the doctors office that Bennett was using prescriptions from the doctors office that were allegedly stolen and the prescriptions were being used by Bennett to obtain narcotic drugs.  Further investigation revealed that several prescriptions in either Bennett’s married or maiden name were filled at the pharmacy in the K-Mart store on Commercial Drive.

     Following Bennett’s arrest she was released on her own recognizance and is to appear in Town Court at a later date.
