TRACTOR TRAILER AND CAR COLLIDE IN NEW HARTFORD

ONE DRIVER TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

A passenger car and a tractor-trailer truck collided at the intersection of Higby Road and Sessions Road Tuesday morning at 11:40 a.m.

The accident occurred when a car driven by John M. Reed, Age 18 of Utica entered into the intersection from Sessions Road into the path of a northbound 14-wheel tractor-trailer truck that was being driven on Higby Road by James V. Longway, age 36, of Auburn.  The Reed car was struck broadside in the passenger side.  The car was demolished.  The tractor-trailer sustained front-end damage. Both the car and the tractor- trailer had to be towed from the scene.

Reed was treated at the scene by members of the New Hartford Fire Department and Edwards Ambulance Service. He was then transported to St. Lukes Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

Reed was issued a ticket charging him for failing to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign. He is scheduled to answer the charge in New Hartford Court in January.
